Usapang Utang: Nagbabayad ka ba ng Utang?

If there is one thing na common among Filipinos, that is we are so used to having debt and not paying
the debt. Madami ng na-Tulfo because hindi marunong magbayad ng utang. Madami na ding pamilya
ang nagsuffer and nasira because of utang.

It is sad that we grew up in a culture, claiming that having debt is a normal part of our lives. Others
have accepted that in order for a family to survive, debt is necessary.

I even have a relative na wala talaga, as in calloused na sya from shame of not paying debt.

While others make fun of it, to me, it is a sad thing and being the Prudent Millennial, I want to
inspire you to make a positive move towards debt.

I always do my best to look at everything from God’s perspective and this article should help
you have a better understanding of how God views debt.

You should pay your debt

According to Psalm 37: 21, The wicked borrow money and not repay. I think, this is pretty obvious,
it is clearly telling us that if we have debt, regardless kung pinahiya ka nya o di na sya naninigil,
we need to have the initiative to pay our debt, kahit it is outside our comfort zone.

Wag maging martir, wag ka mag guarantor

Again, from Proverbs, Proverbs 11:15, He who puts up security for another will surely suffer,
but whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe.

I was put in a situation before to be accountable for a debt worth more than 5.6M.
If that relative won’t be able to pay, I will end up paying for the debt.

I was hesitant kasi di ako tiwala kung kaya ba nya bayaran yung utang on time and
ayoko ding magtampo sya sakin.

So I asked for advice from my boss and he showed me this bible verse.

The bible does not say that we should not borrow money, but God wants us to be a
good steward of God’s blessing and that includes managing our finances, and if we are
managing our finances well, we will not end up in debt.

But what do you do when you are drowning in debt?

First is, ask for forgiveness that you didn’t manage your resources properly.
Second, ask God for guidance to help you manage your finances.

Three, start educating yourself on how you can manage your finances.

Write down your income and balance it with your expenses and if you need help
in managing your finances, I will be more than happy to help.

I hope this article helps but I would love to speak with you. God bless you and may
you have a wonderful day.
